Don’t knock it because you don’t want to try it!

I read a blog today where the author was basically bashing a friend for having gastric bypass.  The blog is focused on “fat acceptance”.   In the authors opinion, because the surgery is so restrictive, it “sucks” as he blatantly put it.  I have heard of fat acceptance in the past.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  But why would you bash someone for making a decision to use a tool to lose weight?

Just because gastric bypass or other bariatric surgery isn’t for you, doesn’t mean it’s wrong!  The author and some responders said there’s no way it could be healthy or the body could get enough nutrients from just four cups of liquid a day.  I managed to survive and thrive on my few months of restrictive eating!  How about all of you, my WLS friends?  I think all of us managed to live off of so little in the beginning while our pouches were small!

So if you don’t want to try bariatric surgery, no problem.  It’s a very PERSONAL decision.  But don’t put down someone else because they chose to use the tool to regain their life!

Hello, I'm Kate, and I'm a 10 year gastric bypass post-op. I started this blog, as well as my nutritional website, to help other bariatric surgery post-op's on their journey as well as pre-op's with their decision if bariatric surgery is right for them or not.
