Afraid of regaining

About 14 months after my gastric bypass, I was underweight.  I never in a million years thought I could be underweight.  But for whatever reason, the surgery initially worked too well.  I looked bad.  Very skinny and almost sickly.  My family was getting concerned.  I was eating, following the diet, but still losing.

I made an appointment with the NUT, and he had me add fattier foods and liquids.  Use half & half in my coffee he said.  Add a snack before bed.  Add an additional protein drink in every day.  But it was scary!  I didn’t WANT to gain weight!  I had been fighting my whole life against gaining weight, now to be told to do it!

If you find yourself in my shoes, one of the people that lose too quickly or a bit to much, rest assured that gaining some back will not undo all of your hard work.  As soon as you have gained back what you need to or as soon as you stop losing, if that’s the problem, go back to the eating plan and you will level out again.  It’s very hard to see the scale go back up, but don’t forget, we had this surgery to get HEALTHY not SKINNY!!  And healthy is not being underweight!  So do what the NUT and doc wants you to do, and don’t worry about the numbers on the scale!
