Don’t banish any food group

This is a pet peeve of mine.  I’ve heard so many weight loss surgery patients say that they never eat carbs, or bread, or fats.  The human body was not meant to live on protein alone!  Yes, protein after bariatric surgery is extremely important!  But, our bodies still need a well rounded diet.

Once you are further out from your surgery (I’m not talking about new post-ops with the tiny pouches here) and can eat regular meals again, it’s time to add in other food groups.  We need whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats like olive oil and omega 3’s.  Don’t cut out any one food group (unless it’s white bread and sugar, they can go!)

Taking vitamin supplements is necessary for our health after gastric bypass.  But don’t discount all the nutrients we get from food!  Please, don’t banish any healthy foods from your diets.  Well rounded is key.

Hello, I'm Kate, and I'm a 10 year gastric bypass post-op. I started this blog, as well as my nutritional website betterbariatric.net, to help other bariatric surgery post-op's on their journey as well as pre-op's with their decision if bariatric surgery is right for them or not.
