Drink up!

One of the biggest challenges right after bariatric surgery is staying hydrated.  Since your brand new pouch cannot hold much you need to drink, drink, drink to get enough water in every day.  Carry a water bottle around with you at all times!  Never, never leave home without it, and make sure to take small sips constantly throughout the day!

My surgery was in July, and about a month post-op, we decided to head down the shore for the day. I had frozen several water bottles to bring with us, assuming they would quickly defrost in the heat.  Unfortunately, they stayed mostly frozen all day. My oldest child was just a toddler then, and was thirsty, so I ended up giving him drinks every time some of the bottles defrosted, and didn’t drink much myself.  After a few hours on the beach, I was so thirsty I thought I’d have to head over to the hospital.  Don’t forget, you can’t rehydrate like you used to be able to do by chugging!  Trying to be patient with just small sips was excruciating!  Don’t let yourself ever get into this situation.  Always have water on hand, and drink up!

Hello, I'm Kate, and I'm a 10 year gastric bypass post-op. I started this blog, as well as my nutritional website betterbariatric.net, to help other bariatric surgery post-op's on their journey as well as pre-op's with their decision if bariatric surgery is right for them or not.
